A retaining ring (circlip, seegerring) is a kind of spring steel securing ring that is used as a fastener for axial fixing of assemblies. They are used for bores or shafts with grooves and are available for external and internal application.
 
A circlip is subjected to strong centrifugal forces, but is also secure against high rotational speed The ring has lugs with holes for rapid fixing at the desired location.
